Photography of products of the Pervouralsk New Pipe Plant
ChTPZ Group is a Russian group of several ferrous metallurgy companies. The group includes the Pervouralsk New Pipe Plant, the Chelyabinsk Pipe Rolling Plant, MSA (Czech Republic), SOT, and ETERNO.
The Pervouralsk New Pipe Plant JSC was founded in 1934. Today, it is one of the leaders in steel pipe production in Europe. It also specializes in gas cylinder production. The Pervouralsk New Pipe Plant is one of the Big Eight pipe plants. The plant’s products have been supplied to twenty-five countries in Asia, Europe, and America for seventy years. Pipes made at the Pervouralsk New Pipe Plant are used in mechanical engineering, in gas and oil industry, aircraft and shipbuilding, in thermal and nuclear power engineering, in construction, and in space industry. All products of the plant have DIN compliance certificates of the American Petroleum Institute (API), the German company TUV Rheinland, and several other certifying documents.
The studio has photographed the products and enterprises of the pipe industry many times. We prepared photo banks of the Seversky and Sinarsky plants, did image-building photography of the Volzhsky Pipe Plant. For the Chelyabinsk Pipe Rolling Plant Group of Companies, we designed a catalog of pipe products and did image-building photography before. Last time, to get recognizable and original footage, we had the pipes stacked into giant installations.
This time, we were asked to make photographs of products for the company’s website and catalogs. The plant produces more than 25,000 types and sizes of pipes and profiles from two hundred grades of alloyed, carbon, and stainless steel to 59 standards and several hundreds of specifications. Therefore, there was no shortage of photographic material.
We photographed seamless pipes, stainless pipes of various diameters, pipes for the oil and gas industry, and construction profiles, as well as precision, boiler, and electric-welded pipes.
The products were photographed in several shops, including the finishing center for the oil pipes production of the Chelyabinsk Pipe Rolling Plant Group. In total, nine main and about 20 auxiliary workshops are located here on the area of 60 square kilometers.
To present the products of the plant in a special way, we decided to experiment with the color solutions when building a frame. We used color filters in various lighting conditions so that the photos differed from each other. We tried to focus on the texture of the material and its properties; for this purpose, we used not only photographic equipment and lighting devices, but the reflective property of the pipes themselves. As a result, we obtained interesting and conceptually verified materials for the company’s photo bank.
