Industrial photography of Gazprom Neft
Gazprom Neft PJSC is the largest oil-and-gas company and the only Russian company producing hydrocarbons on the Arctic shelf
Gazprom Neft is one of the three largest domestic oil companies and the leader in terms of the production growth. The company explores oil and gas fields, extracts and processes hydrocarbons, and then sells the resulting oil products in Russia and abroad. The major production regions are the Yamalo-Nenets and the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrugs, Siberia (the Omsk and the Tomsk Regions), and the city of Orenburg. The company’s refineries are in Moscow, Yaroslavl, and Orenburg. Gazprom Neft is the only Russian company operating on the Arctic shelf and developing the Prirazlomnoye oilfield.
In 2010, the company started the development of the Novoportovskoye oilfield with the largest oil reserves on the Yamal Peninsula. It was discovered back in the late 1980s, but was not developed because of the harsh natural conditions (permafrost) and the absence of effective mining technologies. In 2016, a seaport with an oil loading terminal, the Gates of the Arctic, was built in this area. It is in the fresh waters of the Gulf of Ob beyond the Arctic Circle and to this day remains the only marine terminal in the world to operate in such conditions.
In April 2018, the Line Artworks team traveled to the Yamal Peninsula to photograph these two production sites and make a new photo bank for the company. The photography in the Far North took 10 days. Such a long stay on site was because of the complicated logistics between the company’s enterprises. For instance, the only way to get to the Gates of the Arctic port is by helicopter from the nearest settlements, while one can move between the facilities in the Novoportovskoye oilfield only by special-purpose all-terrain vehicles Trekol.
During the photography, we captured of the oil production complex and the infrastructure of the Gates of the Arctic port, and did image-building photography of Gazprom Neft employees. The obtained photographs will be used for website design, printed materials and for the press. In 2017, Line Artworks also collaborated with another company of the Gazprom structure — Gazprom neftekhim Salavat, for which we performed an industrial photography of Russia’s largest petrochemical complex located in the Republic of Bashkortostan.
