Industrial photography at EMCO in Sakhalin
EMCO is a full-cycle coal mining company with assets in Sakhalin and the Magadan Region.
Eastern Mining Company (EMCO) combines coal mining and logistics companies on the Sakhalin Island and in the Magadan Region. The company performs full cycle production of power generating coals (brown, black and coking coals), and coal shipment through the Coal Seaport of Shakhtersk in the Tatar Strait. EMCO supplies coal to the entire Sakhalin and exports products to Japan, China, India, Taiwan, and the Philippines. The company is considered the largest Russian coal exporter to the countries of the Asia-Pacific region.
In September 2019, Line Artworks team traveled to Sakhalin for industrial photography of key mining and logistics enterprises that are part of Eastern Mining Company.
We photographed the process of coal mining and made image-building photographs of the employees of the Solntsevsky Coal Mine, the largest on the entire island. They also photographed the work of the Shakhtersk seaport and coal transshipment on the water.
For coal transshipment on the water, the port uses the unique road-loading program for Russia: Panamax class container ships rebuilt specifically for coal transshipment on the water. We photographed the operation of this unusual vessel in the Tatar Strait.
This was our first experience of working with the EMCO group and the first experience of photography on Sakhalin. Later, the resulting images will be used to design a corporate website and branded printed materials, exhibition booths, and other presentation materials
Line Artworks has been specializing in industrial photography for six years. During this time, we have filmed the operation of several mining enterprises: Kirovsk Ore field in the Murmansk region for the PhosAgro holding, mining divisions of the Severstal group throughout the country and gold mining Polyus company in the Krasnoyarsk Territory.
